Disney Announces New Job Cuts, Targets Several Divisions in Latest Round

Walt Disney Company conducts another significant round of layoffs, impacting hundreds across film, television and finance departments.

New Delhi: The Walt Disney Company has initiated another significant round of layoffs, with hundreds of employees reportedly losing their jobs across various departments.

The professionals in the film, television and finance departments are impacted in this fresh round of layoffs. This latest move marks a continuation of the company’s broader restructuring efforts aimed at streamlining operations and achieving cost efficiencies.

According to reports, a Disney spokesperson stated: “As our industry transforms at a rapid pace, we continue to evaluate ways to efficiently manage our businesses while fuelling the state-of-the-art creativity and innovation that consumers value and expect from Disney.”

“We have been surgical in our approach to minimise the number of impacted employees,” the spokesperson added.

As Disney navigates a difficult media world marked by changing consumer habits and fierce competition in the streaming sector, this is reportedly the company’s fourth-largest layoff, and it comes after the prevision rounds that were conducted during the past year.

The emphasis on TV and streaming companies points to a strategic realignment as Disney works to maximise its direct-to-consumer operations, such as ESPN+, Hulu and Disney+. The business has been focusing on profitability in its streaming division, which has required a reassessment of staff allocation, production pipelines, and content strategy.
