Sophos Launches Identity Threat Detection and Response to Counter Rising Credential-Based Attacks

New Delhi: Sophos has launched a new Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) solution to strengthen defences against the growing wave of identity-based cyberattacks. Integrated into the Sophos Central platform, the ITDR solution works with Sophos’ Extended Detection and Response (XDR) and Managed Detection and Response (MDR) systems to help organizations detect compromised credentials, address misconfigurations, and mitigate identity-related risks in real time.

The launch marks a major step in Sophos’ strategy following its acquisition of Secureworks, with ITDR being the first solution from that acquisition to be fully integrated into the company’s security ecosystem. The rollout comes amid a surge in identity-related threats. According to the Sophos X-Ops Counter Threat Unit, the volume of stolen credentials available for sale on the dark web grew by 106 percent between June 2024 and June 2025. The firm’s Active Adversary Report also found that compromised credentials were the leading cause of cybersecurity incidents for the second consecutive year, with more than half involving attackers using legitimate remote access accounts.

The Sophos ITDR system continuously assesses identity risks and performs over 80 cloud identity posture checks. It also uses AI-driven analytics to detect techniques such as privilege escalation, brute force attacks, and lateral movement. Automated playbooks allow organizations to respond by resetting passwords, revoking sessions, or locking compromised accounts.

With identity now a key attack vector for threat actors targeting cloud and remote systems, the new solution aims to help enterprises enhance visibility across digital identities, streamline risk mitigation, and strengthen overall cybersecurity resilience.
