Southwest Airlines to Set Up Global Innovation Centre in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Southwest Airlines, one of the leading carriers in the United States, has announced its plans to set up a Global Innovation Centre (GIC) in Hyderabad.

The announcement was made after a delegation from the airline, led by Chief Information Officer Lauren Woods and Chief Technology Officer Tom Merritt, met with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Secretariat.

The Chief Minister welcomed the decision and said the move reflects Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a global technology and innovation hub. He highlighted the state government’s vision to transform Telangana into a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047 under the ‘Telangana Rising 2047’ initiative.

Southwest Airlines, the fourth-largest carrier in the US by passenger numbers, aims to use the Hyderabad centre to strengthen its digital capabilities and business strategy. The delegation also included Jason Shying, Head of Legal Counsel, and Sarthak Brahma from HEX Advisory Group.
