Tragic Loss at Krutrim as Employee Dies by Suicide; Bhavish Aggarwal’s Firm Issues Statement

Krutrim, an AI startup, mourns the "tragic passing" of employee Nikhil Somwanshi. While the company states he was on personal leave, an unverified Reddit post by a former coworker alleges a "toxic work environment" and "poor managerial oversight" contributed to his stress.

Bengaluru: A “tragic passing” has been reported by Krutrim, an AI startup supported by Bhavish Aggarwal, the creator of Ola, to have lost one of its staffers. The employee, Nikhil Somwanshi, was recognised by the company as being on personal leave at the time of the occurrence.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of one of our most talented young employees, Nikhil, on the 8th of May. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” a Krutrim spokesperson said in an official statement.

The employer claims that on 8 April, Somwanshi sought time off, stating that he needed to rest, and that his request was immediately approved. On April 17, he later asked for an extension, stating that he was feeling better but would still benefit from more time off. According to Krutrim, his leave was extended appropriately.

“As a company, we are heartbroken by this loss. Nikhil was a valued team member, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and worked with him,” the spokesperson added. The company also said it is offering full support to Somwanshi’s family and has been in touch with the authorities.

In the meantime, a user posing as a former coworker said in an unverified Reddit post that Somwanshi had been under a lot of strain at work. After two coworkers quit the team, the author of the post, which has already gone viral on the r/IndianWorkplace subreddit, asserts that Somwanshi was managing a project with little assistance. He said that there was a “toxic work environment” and “alleged poor managerial oversight” in this instance, particularly for new hires.
