New Delhi: Tata Group and Intel have signed a strategic alliance to jointly explore semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging and AI-focused computing solutions in India. The collaboration aims to expand domestic capabilities at a time when India is pushing to localise critical components of the electronics and semiconductor supply chain.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), both companies will assess manufacturing and packaging of Intel products at Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor fabrication and OSAT facilities. The move signals an effort to shift parts of Intel’s production and assembly processes into India as the country positions itself as an alternative and geo-resilient destination in the global semiconductor landscape.
The alliance will also examine opportunities to scale AI PC solutions for India’s consumer and enterprise markets, which analysts expect to become one of the top global PC markets by 2030. This work would combine Intel’s reference designs for AI computing with Tata Electronics’ electronics manufacturing capabilities and wider access to domestic distribution channels through Tata Group companies.
Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran said the group sees semiconductors as a long-term strategic sector and expects the collaboration to support India’s goal of building a more reliable supply chain. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan noted that the partnership could help the chipmaker respond to rising local demand for PCs and AI-enabled devices.
