Amritsar: Telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) has introduced its 5G services at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, extending its next-generation network footprint in Punjab.
The launch targets one of the country’s most visited religious landmarks, which draws more than 1.5 lakh devotees and tourists daily. The shrine, also known for hosting the world’s largest community kitchen or Langar, experiences intense mobile data usage due to the dense concentration of visitors within a limited area.
To address the surge in network demand, Vi has strengthened its infrastructure around the temple complex by deploying additional 5G equipment and enhancing overall network capacity. The focused augmentation aims to maintain consistent high-speed connectivity, even during peak hours and major gatherings.
With the deployment, users at the site can expect improved data speeds, reduced latency and more stable mobile performance for streaming, digital payments and everyday communication needs.
Vi’s 5G services are already operational in Chandigarh, Mohali, Kharar and Zirakpur. The company said further expansion across Punjab is underway as part of its phased rollout plan.
Rahul Joshi, Circle Business Head – Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh & Jammu & Kashmir, Vodafone Idea, said: “The extension of our 5G services to the Golden Temple marks an important milestone in our expansion journey in Punjab. We are focused on strengthening connectivity across key public spaces while continuing to enhance our 5G footprint across the region. Our priority remains delivering a fast and reliable network experience to our customers as digital adoption continues to grow.”
